Liège 3D – a new dimension of design – GENCORK

04-12-2025

Our company has been around for over 20 years, and few new developments related to cork surprise us.

Yet, the Portuguese company GENCORK immediately captivated us. Visionary, they brilliantly combine renewable and natural raw materials (cork) with art, creating incredible three-dimensional cork walls. We invite you to explore their gallery of products and projects, from which we have selected those that impressed us the most.

GENCORK, a brand of the Sofalca Group, produces cork panels for various surfaces. This product combines traditional equipment with cutting-edge production processes.

The 100% natural and sustainable cork agglomerate is transformed using advanced algorithms and digital production processes. This digital approach is at the heart of GENCORK's DNA. The company uses exclusively cork twigs (bent) to produce its granules. This 100% natural process requires no additives.

This technology, developed by Sofalc, involves injecting steam through cork granules, which expand and bind together with the cork resin itself.

The process gives the material a dark brown color, similar to that of chocolate.

The company uses biomass from the Falca grinding process to produce steam. This allows us to achieve a zero-waste and environmentally friendly process with 95% energy self-sufficiency. For us, cork is an exceptional material, offering numerous advantages, such as acoustic and vibration insulation.

GENCORK uses computer-aided design (CAD) strategies with parametric systems to create algorithms inspired by nature, geometry, and mathematics.

This enables the production of a wide variety of patterns in different shapes and sizes, optimizing the thermal and acoustic properties of cork and thus obtaining surfaces of great aesthetic value. GENCORK is currently working on projects of varying sizes, including hotels, restaurants, offices, and temporary structures (exhibitions, stands, etc.). Among its current projects are the Van der Valk hotel in Belgium, the BNP Paribas headquarters in Lisbon and the Ubisoft headquarters in Paris.
