Do you know everything about gluing cork to the wall?

23-01-2025

Cork is an unusual, but increasingly popular material, which is designed to keep you warm and look great. It is not only a material that is excellent insulator - thermally and acoustically - but also matches the interior design in an unconventional style. However, when installing cork, you need to know how and what to do it with.

What glue to use for cork?

Gluing cork to a wall is a fairly simple task, although it requires precision. First of all, you need to know which cork to choose. It is not enough to be guided by the price or the manufacturer's reputation. You also need to look at the composition of the adhesive. Good products ensure easier gluing of cork. Therefore, you need to look at the chemical composition of the adhesive, the ease of application of the material and safety both during installation and after the fact, during use.

How to glue cork?

Gluing wall cork is simple and effective only with good quality products. On the one hand, it is about good cork. It is a solid and professional material that should last us for years. How long does it take for cork glue to dry? It depends on its composition and the materials used. However, it is worth assuming its specificity, i.e. not only the setting time itself, but also the time to dry. Therefore, cork and its gluing is difficult and exhausting work, although on the other hand it only requires a little precision using good materials.

Assembly instructions:

Cork tiles as natural materials should be treated with appropriate care. They should be stored in factory-sealed packages in dry and airy places. Storing cork in rooms with variable humidity (below 45% or above 65%) may lead to changes in the shape and dimensions of the tiles.

1. The substrate on which the cork will be laid should be even, smooth, dry. Any unevenness should be eliminated using, for example, gypsum putty, in the event of unevenness.
2. If there are: wallpapers, paints (latex, oil), varnishes on the wall, they should be removed
3. and the wall should be dusted and primed (with a universal primer)
4. Cork tiles should be unpacked from the original foil packs and stored in the room that is to be glued for at least 24 hours before gluing. Cork should be glued at a temperature of 18°C. Do not install cork if the room temperature is below 15°C.

Cork is a natural material, so there may be slight differences in the shades of individual tiles. Therefore, it is very important to mix the tiles taken out of the packs before starting to glue. The tiles should be carefully checked for dimensions and shades before starting to glue.

We reserve that we are not responsible for gluing cork to the wrong surface or for improper use of glue and we do not accept complaints about the material after it has been installed.

Description of assembly work

1. For installation you will need: measuring tape, ruler, spirit level, glue brush or trowel, wallpaper knife, smooth roller.

2. The walls should be primed beforehand so that the primer can dry.

Apply a thin layer of glue to both glued surfaces (tile and wall) when using contact glue; with water glue only to one surface. Apply the glue to the bottom of the tile (ground cork side, not impregnated). During gluing it is very important to smear the edges with glue so that the tiles connect with each other and no gaps appear between them.

The glue should dry (approx. 5 min.) before gluing the tile to the wall.

3.The tile should be installed carefully, starting with the exact location of the corner of the tile and gradually moving along the edge.
4.We recommend that you read the instructions included with the adhesive, and in case of any ambiguities, please contact us by phone.

5.The glued tile should be pressed down with a rubber roller and any excess adhesive should be removed immediately.
