The raw material, cork oak bark, better known as cork, comes from Portugal, where it is harvested and exported worldwide. It is a very environmentally friendly material, easy to process and recycle, while possessing unique properties.

Cork has many uses

When we think of cork, we often imagine a wine stopper or a cork board. Many objects we see in the kitchen or living room are made from this material. Its uses are countless, some important, others minor. There are cork flooring, but also cork tablet holders that make watching Netflix less of a pain. But what makes cork so interesting is that it is environmentally friendly and inexpensive, while also offering exceptional thermal properties. This is the main reason why cork cushions are used in restaurants and homes.

The process of obtaining the bark

Self-adhesive cork is another interesting product made from cork. It can be used as a cork cushion, for example, under a chair or table, and attached to the leg of the furniture to prevent damage to the floor, protect it, and reduce the noise of chair movements. You may be wondering how to get bark without cutting down the tree. In fact, it is the only tree anyone has ever encountered whose bark does not require felling, as it grows in two layers. The inner, living layer forms the basis of the new outer layer, which protects the tree from temperature fluctuations. If the outer layer dies, it can be removed with a special axe that does not damage the tree itself.
